Description
沙參在古代醫學文獻中，只有一種。至清代《本草綱目拾遺》、《本草逢原》兩書問世以後，始將沙參分為南、北兩種沙參。

南沙參功用與北沙參相似，但效力較北沙參弱。具養陰清肺，化痰，益氣的功效。用於肺熱燥咳，陰虛勞咳，乾咳痰粘。

北沙參
用於陰虛肺燥或熱傷肺陰所致的乾咳痰少，咽喉乾燥等。可單用。復方中常與麥冬、天花粉等配伍，如沙參麥冬湯。用於熱傷胃陰或咽燥，舌紅少苔，大便乾結等。常與麥冬、玉竹等益胃生津藥同用。 

《本草从新》认为，北沙参 “甘苦微寒，味淡体轻。专补肺阴，清肺火。治久咳肺痿，金受火刑者宜之，寒客肺中作嗽者勿服”，表明其善清肺火，治疗肺热咳嗽。

玉竹
可養陰潤肺治燥咳，治療由陰虛肺燥引起的少痰乾咳、久咳聲啞，伴有潮熱盜汗、手足心熱等，玉竹是常用的煲湯藥材，配搭沙參、薏米、淮山、桂圓、百合、蓮子、川貝等，即成馳名湯水“清補涼”，有潤燥的功效，也是秋燥季節的合時食療湯膳。
